Warming up outside, still chilli inside…

WEEK 2 CHILLI UPDATE:

So the big news of the day is that our raccoon family stopped by to peruse our rear garden last night from the tops of our side yard fence. We can only assume they’re considering extending the time share of this great space, which we’d been in mutual (cough) agreement to have in place over the past few years. Hopefully our lack of leaf raking and patchy lawn didn’t concern them too much; their visit was rather fleeting…

None the less, this visit and the potential more regular return of the raccoons brings with it great excitement for our kids. They really do love their playdates; we can see that a great bond between the two parties has developed over the years, even if it’s from the safe haven of our living room which overlooks the raccoons playground (our deck). Good times surely lie ahead for all individuals.

In addition, the news of the raccoons return also brought with it some initial concern for our steady chilli growers, however their minds were put at rest immediately after as they were reminded that they’ll remain indoors this year, to avoid a repeat of last years tragedy. Since reaffirming this news, they appear to have really perked up; one can only assume that they’re now keen to toy with the raccoons from the safety of our dining room. This morning they could be seen with vibrate green smiles and out-stretched leaves flexing, likely in preparation of mocking the racoons later this evening from the warmth of their pillowy soil beds, under the consistently sunny environment afforded to them via their heat lamps; the raccoons I’m sure will be properly annoyed as they continue to contend with inconsistent temperatures and rain showers outside.

Anyway, along with the news of our garden friends returning comes with it an equally important chilli update. As you can see from the adjacent photo, the chilli plants have seen significant growth over the past week; last night in particular showed great change. I have to say that the “Click and Grow” (clickandgrow.com) has been working a treat. The chilli’s seem really content; I mean who wouldn’t…16 hours of guaranteed sunshine a day, a maximum flux of 2 degrees in heat and most of all, no concerns over their livelihood as they will continue to socially distance themselves from the racoons at all times! Lets hope that the next week or so brings with it similar results…
