The wait is over. We have peppers (no joke)…
News flash. The wait is over. We have peppers. Yes, real peppers. No joke. Actual, real peppers, hanging from the stems of the plants we've been growing over th...
Staring into the abyss (hot pepper style)…
Time has marched on and with it came dramatic change. Specifically, I reference our hot pepper friends who only a few days ago decided to take advantage of the...
Tom’s Tandoori Chicken (it might bite)…wow. Just wow!
Tom Prater is known for a few things. He's a fantastic guy; we've know each other nearly 40 years (with a few gaps between our younger years and older years), a...
Sriracha, lime wings. A Michael Symon recipe. Say no more.
So I'm sure you're all (still optimistic that more than one person visits this blog) pretty familiar with Michael Symon. If you're not then get your sh*t togeth...
Chilli’s gone wild (well, I guess they’ve grown quite a bit)…
I'm sure the only thing on your minds the past few days has been the very real possibility that the chilli plants had died either through negligent watering by...
Need some help picking the right hot sauce?
Hot sauces go with everything, right? Well, maybe not everything, but in my humble opinion they do go with most things. The trick of course is to figure out whi...
About Me

Hello. This is me. My name is Joe and I am a Yorkshire Pudding. By day I’m an Architect and by night I cook food and enjoy the odd drink. Ironically I’m actually not from Yorkshire, but rather from the Cotswolds in the UK (a real shame as that would’ve tied in nicely). Anyway, I now reside with my beautiful wife and three fantastic kids in Toronto, Canada. I miss the UK greatly, but Toronto has now been home to me for 12 years (note: I must update this in 12 months).
As an extension of my time spent here in Canada I recently noticed that I’ve accumulated quite a few photos of things I’ve experimented with in the kitchen over the past few years and so I thought it would be nice to share them with you, along with their associated stories. I hope that you enjoy sifting through everything and more than anything my wish is for you to be inspired and create something fun for yourselves in your kitchen.
Anyway, take in some of my fun food and drink recipes and stories. Even take it upon yourself to try them out for yourself (and your kids if you’re really feeling it). If you get bored with “my stuff”, feel free to click on “other stuff” for other inspiring…well…stuff. However, be aware that this content more specifically relates to things I’m interested in and inspired by, i.e. not specifically my own recipes and stories, but rather a mix of food and drink items that others are excited by. I’ve just fortunately stumbled upon this content and have decided to share it for your own viewing pleasure. I’m fully aware that time spent here may lead to less time spent on my main recipe/stories page, which I guess is a risk I’m willing to take, for the sake of educating you all as best as I can…I’m nothing but a team player.
About The Name
Lastly, likely many (that might be optimistic of me at this stage) of you are possibly wondering… “what’s with the weird name this guy used for his blog”. Well, there’s a story behind it so here goes…
[ˈlärdər]…
For those of you from England, “A larder is a cool area for storing food prior to use. Larders were commonplace in houses before the widespread use of the refrigerator”. For those of you from North America “A larder is a cool room in a house where food is stored; a pantry“. In any case, as the grandson of a wonderful woman (Mary) who taught cooking and had a traditional larder for many years, I spent a great deal of time learning the ways of the kitchen with access to her larder and so I thought it might be nice to reminisce a little.
…tecture
Add to that, the back end of a word I use regularly during the daytime in the field of Architecture, but also something I consider transferable to the world of cooking. After all, it is said that architecture is “a complex or carefully designed structure of something”, and I’d like to think that my food, drinks and photos are each conceivably “carefully designed structures of something”; if not always overly complex…
